I was here for a few months last autumn/winter. It was dark and gray and I walked to German class as the sun rose and the frost melted each morning. Sometimes I appreciate a cold walk after a hard night to wake me up. Sometimes I don't.

That's interesting to see because both pictures reflect the change that's going on in Neukölln. The first shows a small public alley next to ugly apartment buildings from the 1950s. There has been much effort to make the place look "nicer", meaning there are new lawns and benches and stuff. The "Spielothek" on the second picture, a remanescence from 20-30 years ago, is now closed and replaced by an Internet Cafe (of course).
I walked by that building (top image) every morning and always thought "I need to take a picture" but was often in a rush. I finally did and the next day all of the graffiti was painted over.
